HOT FACE HOT FACE
Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another episode of that panel show podcast that we like to call Idiot Wind for that is its name. We are here to entertain you for the next half an hour with some nonsense and some fact interspliced which isn't a word I don't think put together like some kind of hybrid of education and feces. On my left I have an exciting pair of idiots who are going to make up one team. We have directly to my left Mr. Scott, James Gooch. Hello. Hey, how are you doing? Yeah, not bad, thanks. I always think of you as a member of the Rat Pack. If you were anyone out of history do you think you'd be a member of the Rat Pack? Yeah, I'd be the one on the left.
Which is John Virgo, I think, wasn't it? Yeah, him. Yeah, lovely. And joining you on your team is the delightful Enrico Cioni. Enrico! Hello, Chris. How have you been? Pretty good. I don't think about you as a member of the Rat Pack. I don't want you to say that personally. That's okay. No. It's fine. Okay. Really? No, no, it's fine. We'll come back to you in a minute and get your team name. And facing them are two more delightful idiots in the form of Prana and Patrick. Prana, how are you? Good, thank you. What have you been up to since we last saw you? Eating. Yeah? Yeah. What's been your favourite thing? Peanuts. Peanuts. Yeah. What's your favourite food in the entire world? Tough question. It is. Are you a fan of food? I am, yeah.
But, I mean, it also depends on which family member I want to keep happy, right? Right. So, if I'm going to meet my mum, I would say lentils, dal. And if I'm going to meet my partner's mum, then I will say croquetas or, yeah. So, it's very dependent on who needs to be happy. You manipulate people? Of course. I study psychology. Why study psychology if it doesn't help you emotionally manipulate those close to you? Patrick, do you use and manipulate those close to you? No, they manipulate me. Are you happy with that? Are you happy with that situation? Well, you've got me to come here today. Yes.
That's very, very true. And I will kill that puppy if you leave early. Okay. Good. All right. Let's get some team names. What are you two called, Scott and Enrico? We've discussed this earlier, haven't we? I mean, because you're looking at each other as if you'd never, ever discussed it. No. No, we're going to say it at the same time, actually. That's how well we're in sync, man. Yeah, in sync. Yeah. We're the... We're the... Friars of Dreamland. Yeah. So that was really obvious. Matthew, did you get that? What are they called? I think I got Friars of Dreamland. The Friars of Dreamland. Sure. Yeah.
Excellent name. I love the way that you delivered it as well with sort of suspense and poise, even though you both knew exactly what you were going to say. It's the Friars of Dreamland versus... The Hides. Yeah. The Heights. The Heights. The... Hides. Hides. With a D. Yeah. Like hiding. Yeah. The Hides. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Unless you want to add something to it.
Let's just go with Hides. Why mess with perfection? Yeah. The Hides. So the... That was manipulating Patrick to agree. What are they called, Matthew? I've forgotten already. Hides. And these ones? Friars of Dreamland. All right. We're in for a good quiz. And so I think we should do the thing that we normally do at this juncture, which is start with round one.
Sort it out. Yes. Round one is called sort it out. I'm going to give a conundrum or a situation to our teams and they are going to try and sort it out. Okay. Our first question of the quiz. The post office have come up with a handy checklist for moving house. What items are on it? So I hate moving. And I think this is a popular opinion. But I'm always surprised that more people don't do the thing that I'm about to say people should do. Which I'm sure this website also agrees with. And it is just burn everything. Shave your hair off. Get a wig or dye your hair. Get a new name and move to a new town. And just with a new identity. Like don't take the stuff.
Enrico, when you last moved house, do you think you're actually being put into the witness protection program? Oh, actually that makes a lot of sense now that you think of it. Did the moving van have a red blue flashing light on the top? Yeah. I thought that was funny. Oh my God. But hey, if it worked out. Yeah. No, no. That's no problems. What was your previous identity? Well, I can't tell you. Right? Can I say that? Yeah. That's a good point. Yeah. I don't know. I can make up something that wasn't my previous entity and tell you that it was. Yeah. Yeah. Do that. So my name was, it was Jethro Jeffries and I was a pigeon wrangler actually. Yeah. Is that true? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I, I, I trained pigeons for films.
Yeah. You know, the birds, I didn't do that, but like I was trained by the guy who trained the pigeons for the birds. Anyone else got any thoughts about what might be on the handy checklist for moving house? What's quite handy is to stick a numbered label on each item and keep a log of those. That actually sounds like a genuinely good system. You've moved house relatively recently. Is that the system you used? Well, I think in retrospect, I should have done that. Yeah. Because your stuff ended up all over the place. Yeah. Well, I mean, before I was having to put up with a very messy shared kitchen and now I've got my own kitchen and it's my own mess. Do you number the mess? Yeah.
I, I keep a diary of all my mess and what it was and where it is. It must be difficult to track once it leaves your house and goes to the landfill or wherever your mess goes to. Oh, well then you just sort of put it in the, uh, out column. Scott, are you... Yeah, so, uh, I've also moved house recently and the advice, the advice I can give is just bend with your knees when you pick up the house and then just, you know, just count and just move it three steps at a time. So, you know, one, two, three, down, one, two, three, down. How many of you did it take? Yeah, it was just two of us, but it did take five years. And how far did you move?
Two, down.
Prada. So, when I was moving the house, I made sure to throw a party. Yeah. I think that should be on the checklist. Um, the other thing is always carry a very heavy furniture, piece of furniture and walk to the next house. Why is that important? Yeah, I mean, you know, it's, it's environmentally friendly. Of course. So, you don't take a car, you just walk with it and then you keep looking at people, be like, oh, help me, help me, like, you know, looking at them with the puppy face, hoping they would help, but then they'll just ignore you. No one will help you, probably won't even look at you, right? No, yeah. Um... Not at that time. You could try, I don't know, what it would take for somebody in Britain to help you on the street. I think quite a lot.
Did you try setting yourself on fire? Ah, see? I mean, it can work. I did not think of that. It's a high-risk strategy because it doesn't always work. Yeah. But then I wouldn't need a house, would I? That's a very good point. Always looking for the silver lining. Yeah. Sunny disposition. I once carried a fire extinguisher from a train station to my house and one person commented on it. You stole a fire extinguisher? No, no, I carried a fire... No, no, I was given... I was volunteering in a place where they had loads of fire extinguishers and they were just giving them away. So I just took one. It sounds so dubious. No, yeah, I took it and I still have it. Thank you for volunteering to take this fire extinguisher as a token of our Stevie. I mean, it would be handy if I set myself on fire as I'm moving the house. Yeah, exactly. Matthew, any points there?
Yes, actually, surprisingly.
Each team does get a point for going around the houses, pun intended, to a couple of points. It was a good one. Enrico's suggesting that he sets fire to everything does kind of match with have a big clear up before you move. Also, a fire extinguisher could possibly count as grabbing the essentials for moving day. But if we have half a point for each, then that's fine. And Patrick did talk about making a list and labelling, and they are both on this list, which therefore I think is a point each. Yeah. That sounds fair. It also sounds completely mundane and meaningless because nobody wins. Well, I mean, in many ways, isn't all of existence mundane and meaningless, yet here we are. Good. Okay, well, one point each. It's a solid start. That's round one done. Do you want to know my favourite one of these, though? No.
Round two. No, okay, go on then. What's your favourite one? Give notice to your landlord.
It's good to have that on the checklist because you might just begin to do that. I'm sure there's something we've... Why are we still paying rent?
It's the game of things. Matthew, let's have a... Those who have been listening to these podcasts in order will know we've had a bit of trouble with the wheel this series. Matthew keeps losing the wheel. Matthew, do we have the wheel this week? Well, there's a long answer and a short answer, and both of them end in the word no. Oh, let's have the short one then. No. Okay. Have you got your little dice shaker? I thankfully... Well, I lost that, but I replaced it. Okay. So we have a replacement dice shaker. Does it sound exactly the same? It does sound exactly the same because of brand loyalty. Have you got over your obsession with randomness? Are you going to just do a little shake and then roll them this week? Again, I have a long answer and a short answer. What's the short answer? No. You can get on with it then.
Loving it.
What have you got? Oh, I might need to re-roll. No, no, sorry. No, it's a trickle-down dog treats. Oh.
Well, you just gave us the answer, then you re-rolled. Matthew. I mean, what happens if this comes up with a different one? What do we do then? Yep, it was exactly the same. Trickle-down dog treats. Best of three? No.
I just love shaking. I just love shaking.
All right, whatever this one is, we're definitely going with it.
That's also trickle-down dog treats. Oh, what about that? What are the chances of that? I can't do the maths quickly enough. All right, yes, this round is called trickle-down dog treat. So, teams, the way that this works, this round is set in a dystopian future where humans have vacated the planet due to their own silly behaviour involving carbon, and what has happened is that dogs have become the apex species in the world, and dog society has moved on. It started in quite a sort of socialism. Everyone was considered equal. There was a strong state. But what happened over time was that, what happens with most societies, that the poverty
gap started to happen, and they ended up with an elite 1% of dogs holding most of the power. And that's where we jump in and pick up the story today. One of each team is going to play an elite aristocratic dog who is trying to get the menu for an upcoming dinner party from their servant dog. The servant dog, both dogs can't talk. I mean, dogs can't talk, right? The elite aristocratic dog has managed to get enough English under its control to guess the answers of the dishes that the servant dog, who actually can't speak any English at all, is trying to convey.
So, the servant dog is going to speak entirely in dog noises and try and convey a menu for a dinner party. So, that's a starter, a fish course, a main course, a dessert, and a selection of cheeses.
And after each course, the master dog is going to guess correctly and reward the servant dog with some kind of dog treat from the selection of snacks that we have on the table and feed that to them before they then go on and explain the next course. Okay. Can you just run that by me again? So, I think Scott and Enrico, would you like to choose your snack, Scott?
Scott has chosen cheesy Wotsits.
There's a minute on the clock. If you're ready, off you go.
Baguette! Baguette!
Seal baguette! Seal baguette! A sexual encounter with you, as a starter.
Yeah, that's the starter. A sexual encounter. Well done, well done. Lovely stuff. Ruff, ruff, ruff. Move on to the fish course now.
A bird. A bird that jumps. A kangaroo that flies.
Oh, flying fish. Flying fish. Yes, yes. Flying fish. Yes, flying fish for the fish course. Well done, well done. Have a half a cheeto. Scott has accepted. If you could actually put it directly into his mouth, then that would be amazing. Break the next one in half. If he's true to character, he doesn't have opposable thumbs. Okay. That's all I'm saying. All right.
Don't use that language with me.
20 seconds left. Let's see if you can get the main course.
A chicken, a chicken. Yeah, yeah, a chicken. What sort of chicken? What sort of chicken?
A marching band chicken.
A royal chicken.
An English chicken. And your time is up. Oh, well done. Very good. Very good. Almost got to the main course. What sort of chicken was it? French. French chicken. Marching band chicken. Good. Well, yes. Scott has helped himself to a final treat, which he thoroughly, thoroughly deserved. Patrick, what treat would you like to be fed by your master? Have a selection of snacks on the table. Dry roast peanuts. Cheesy what's it?
Peanuts. Peanuts. Yeah. I mean, you could go for the bowl of chocolate bars, but it would have to be an entire chocolate bar for every guest. All right. You have the same amount of time. Let's see what's happening at this dystopian dog dinner party.
I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. I'm going to go for the starter. Mouse.
Soup? Soup. Soup is a starter. It's a cracking start. All right. On to the fish course. Feed him a well done dog treat. Oh, do you want it? Okay. This dog has a nice course. I'm happy with it.
One thing I like about this round is it also messes with social boundaries. Let's go on to the fish course.
A ghost. Ghost.
Ghost fish.
You're angry. A fish that's angry.
A fish that goes up, flies. Does whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop. A dolphin. No, that would be just bad, actually. A little fish. A fat fish. Big fat fish. A big fat fish. Ten seconds. A fish that goes up. Flying fish. Going upward fish.
Oh, time is up. That was good work. What was it, Patrick? Was it, was it an angry, was it an angry ghost fish? Salmon. Oh, well done. Well, that was exactly as I thought it would be. A raging success. I think future episodes of Idiot Windu will just be exclusively that for 45 minutes and nothing else. Right. Let's throw over to Matthew for some sense. Oh, no. Well, after that round, Friars of Dreamland are now two points ahead with three to one against Hyde's. Okay. All to play for, Hyde's. Nothing to worry about. We are now going to go and join our good friend, Nicholas Sparrow, who's at a port-a-loo in a secret location. Nicholas, are you there? Hello, and welcome to Sparrow's Eye View
with your friend and host, hi, Nicholas Sparrow. Now, this week, I'm going to talk about mythical animals. We've all read the stories. Harry Potter, Narnia, Blue Planet. Full of mythical creatures. The team has got to know me over the past few weeks, and I feel at this point, it is time to test how well they know their friend and leader, Nicholas Sparrow. So, this week, I'm going to ask the teams to design Nicholas's perfect mythical creature. Okay. Based on how well you know Nicholas Sparrow, which by now I think we'll all agree is pretty well,
what do you think his favourite mythical creature would be? Who'd like to kick us off? Oh, Enrico, hello. I know this is not a buzzer. No, but you... I want to use it. That's fine. Well, I feel like I have gotten to know Nicholas Sparrow very well over the last few weeks, and he is truly a great, magnificent leader. And I think the ideal mythical creature is an animal with the face of Nicholas Sparrow and the body of Nicholas Sparrow and the limbs of Nicholas Sparrow. Wow. What a creature you describe. Oh, very exciting. Thank you, Enrico. I mean, it's basically, if I'm not mistaken, it's Nicholas Sparrow. Yes. Are you suggesting that Nicholas Sparrow isn't real? No.
Because that's strange territory to be in. We just heard from him. No, no, no, no, no. He is real. Okay. I have seen him. Okay. But you can't edit perfection. You can't make it better, you know? That's very true. All right, any other thoughts? Well, I think Enrico is on the right lines, but he just wants to upgrade from a sparrow to a phoenix. So the head of a phoenix, the body of a phoenix, the limbs of a phoenix. Okay. Anything else? I would have thought that Boris Johnson would be his mythical creature. Oh, if only he was mythical. Imagine that. I think he, you know, he's quite cultural. So I think he, he would love a, like the Japanese version of a unicorn,
which farts acid. Is that true? Yes. Oh, wow. There we go. I have met one. So we've got a unicorn that farts acid, Boris Johnson, Nicholas Sparrow, saw Toto, but not really, and a phoenix. Well, it might be a better version of Boris Johnson if nothing else. All right, let's go back over to Nicholas in his port-a-loo and find out if any of you have got the answer right. Well, I'm sure you guys had fun thinking it up, but have you got it correct? So my perfect mythical creature would be, well, let's take the unicorn. Yes, some might say one of the top 15 mythical creatures known to man. So we take the unicorn.
Well, I like the horn. So we take the horn. Let's make it a bit thicker. And you know what? Let's have two of them. It's got two horns, right? Let's move it down a bit onto the nose. Now, the actual features of this creature, I would say I want it a bit more bulkier. I want something that, you know, when you push it, it pushes back. You know what I mean? So let's make it a bit more thicker set. It's not too big. It's not chubby. It's just built like a tank. So we take the creature. Let's have it, we won't have it sparkly or rainbowy or anything like that. We'll have it nice and grey. Grey is the colour of heroes. So we've got a grey, big, bulky creature, two horns on its nose so far. Now, a name. What should we call it? I don't know.
Is it a twino? Should we call it a twino? No, no, wait a minute. I've just described a rhino, haven't I? Right. Okay, well, my perfect, miserable creature is a rhino. Did you get it right, teams? There we go. No points. One of Matthew's favourite outcomes to any round ever. No points whatsoever. Let's move on to What the What the Fuck?
Okay, round five is What the What the Fuck? And this is for anybody can answer. There's no need for buzzers. Question one is what was the problem with a Christmas jumper that led to Walmart Canada pulling it from sale and issuing an apology? Did it say Satan instead of Santa? No. Because that would be bad. Did they falsely claim that it was made of eco-friendly material and as a result they had to recall them and send them to landfill?
No. What might ruin Christmas? All the Christmas jumpers are so not a big name. Just all the It was just a normal Christmas jumper. And they came to their senses and just went this is awful. Yeah. It was in fact that it featured Santa lying in bed taking cocaine. Genuinely was on sale in Walmart Canada. Next question. What did officers in Van Burren, Maine find when they attended the address of a man who dialed 911 stating that he'd been shot? Was it that actually it was the future? And the man was actually one of the police officers who'd been accidentally shot by the other police officer so they were kind of finding their future selves? Let me just check. No, it wasn't that. Oh, okay. Because that happens.
More than you would think. Yeah, exactly. In fact, when they released the most common emergency calls that one's always up there, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. Like four or five. Yeah, yeah. Not like one. Was it something like someone had smashed his wing mirror but he said he'd been shot to get a rapid response? No, not this time. Did they enter the personal office in the flat and the chair just turned around and it was a shotgun smoking a cigar? No. A dead man. A dead man who'd been shot.
No, it wasn't that either. It turned out he'd been shot by a booby trap that he had made and put on his door to prevent intruders. He'd rigged up a handgun to fire as soon as someone opened the door and he'd then opened the door to test it.
And it worked!
There's no need for the scores now because we're going to get them in a minute and we're going over to one of my favourite places a place where I feel safe, secure and sometimes violated. It's time to go to Matthew Corner.
I'm Dr. Tommy Givens. My area of expertise is Matthew. Matthew is intimate. Matthew is exotic. Matthew is mundane. Matthew is familiar. Matthew is stubborn at times or difficult. I have come to abolish Matthew. Today is another list game because I love lists and everyone loved lists. It was such a relief when everyone had finished the game that I thought we'd do another one. So we are going to I say we, you I already know are going to list the following cities by the number of public toilets maintained by their councils as of 2018. Of course we are. What a load of publicly funded amenities. Yay!
So I've got five cities just from least to most in terms of public toilets. Cambridge, Cardiff, Hull, Norwich and York. Okay, so firstly has anyone been to any of these cities and used a public toilet? I'm from Cambridge. Have you used public toilets there? Yes, on several occasions. What counts as a public toilet? Yeah, that's what I was going to ask. A toilet that is just like in public. And in this case it's funded by the council as opposed to by a shop. The council is at the train station. No, that wouldn't count because that's funded by the railway. Do you know, I often think that some of the best quiz rounds are those that get into like the ownership structure of public amenities. Yeah, same here actually. Yeah. Okay, rank them.
He demanded. Alright, fine. So, Norwich, Cambridge. We're doing this from Leicester. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Norwich, Cambridge, Cardiff, Hull and York. Alright. Interesting. Over this side. Interesting, he says. I would say Hull. Yeah, by Cardiff.
And Norwich. Yeah.
Cambridge. And York. Right. Okay, two stonking answers there, Matthew. I'm loving the thought going into this. However, I don't think any of those are in the right place whatsoever. Well, that's quite difficult to do when you've got a random person. Well, true. So, the answer, as I'm sure somebody out there knows, York is actually bottom with only two. And then it's Norwich. York only has two public toilets. Two publicly funded toilets. What a disgrace. I'm going to write to somebody else's MP about that. You should. Norwich, then second worst with 17, Cardiff with 18, Cambridge with 20, and Hull with 29 public toilets. Oh my God, it's the place to shit if you need to. We're saying it the other way around. We meant like, oh, what? Still no points. We just didn't listen to the question then.
Yeah, yeah. Minus one point for not listening to the question.
We could go for a tiebreaker then. Okay. This is easy. This is 50-50. Anything that makes this round go on longer, I'm down with that. Which city has more, Leicester or Manchester? Fucking hell. Has more what? Public toilets? Again, we're still on the theme of crap. Can you define public toilets again? I'm not quite sure if one's in bus stations. I think Manchester.
What are you guys saying? More. Well, I think for the sake of the quiz, you have to go for the other one. Oh, yeah. We're strongly with Leicester. You're with Leicester? Well, that's a good thing because Leicester has more. Yay! The round's over. Woo! Matthew, you really have excelled yourself this week. Aw, thank you. I'm going to put extra fish in your cage. All right. After that, please revive yourself from that high-octane round as we move on to our final round. Is there anything to play for? I'm going to wait until you speak and then play the jingle over you. Is there anything to play for? No.
Chris, gents! All right. There's probably points in it. So, like, I would assume that there's something to play for. This is back on the buzzers. Freedom. We have three. Freedom. Freedom. We're playing for freedom. You are never going to be free. Not until you have a child of your own and you gift it to me, Matthew, like we've discussed. All right. Questions. Is that all you want?
Someone's got to do the scores on the quiz. Question one. What is the numerically highest zip code in the USA? My God, I've written a question as dull as Matthew's round. You've ruined my next round. Eight.
It's not eight. The numerically highest zip code in America. Zip codes often feature five numbers.
99999. No. I knew someone would go for that. Yes. Scott. Zero, zero, zero, zero, one. No. That's a stupid answer. Minus one point to Scott. Patrick. One, two, three, four, five. No. It's 99950. Question two. How long must true balsamic vinegar be aged for? Prana. Long enough for it to become balsamic vinegar. That is technically true. Point for Prana. Enrico. You know, I was doing a thing about, I was translating a book about how to age hams. And they put them, no, it's not hams, it's Kula Kelo. And you put them in a cellar next to like baskets of grape skins. That's my contribution. This is great knowledge.
Minus one to Enrico. Patrick. Seven or is that a year's bad luck when you break a mirror? Yes, it is. Always get those two confused.
It is in fact 12 years. In which country did the first crossword puzzle appear in 1890? The United States of America. No. Prana. China. No. Patrick. Wales. No. Scott. Portugal wants to invent a time machine. No. Well, maybe that could happen. Okay, point to Scott. It was in fact Italy. Oh. Question four. Name this song.
Enrico. The Beatles. I want to hold your hand. No. In fact, Vogue by Madonna. I was going to say Madonna. Were you going to say that? Yeah. Oh, point to Prana. She was going to say that. In which century were the first flamethrowers used in battle? Enrico.
It's not correct. 16th century. No. Okay. Scott. 9th century BC by the Chinese. No. Yes, Piano. I think I have seen it in the Hindu mythological books. Oh. Where they used to throw flames. But now it became a TV show so that's how I know it. What century would that have been? I mean, it's a mythological.
My mother's going to be so ashamed of me right now. She is. She does listen. She has contacted me before. Long, long ago. Far, far away. Yeah, point to Prana. It was definitely long, long ago. It was, in fact, the first century. The very first one. Who is this? 9 pound, please, mate. Is it the one pound fish guy? Is it the one pound fish guy? No. No. Your brother? No. Your uncle? No. Anyone else? Is it a person who works at a counter in a shop? No. Okay, who was it, Matthew? It was a bus driver I spoke to the other day but I didn't get his name and I don't really know him. What length of lease did the Irish brewer... God, I must have been in a shit movie when I wrote this round. These are just dull as fuck. What length of lease did Irish brewer
Arthur Guinness sign on St. James? I'm just going to abolish that question. The final question is what is the most popular tourist destination in the world? Which city? Prana? Rome. No. Enrico? New York. No. Patrick? Cambridge. No.
Scott? Glasgow. No, it is in fact Paris. And that brings us to the end of the quiz. Let's go over for the final scores. Now, something interesting did actually happen. So before that round, Friars of Dreamland had four and Hyde had one. But thanks to Enrico losing the lead, we now finish with Friars of Dreamland on one and Hyde's on four. Yay! No, Enrico, you've just ruined it for yourself. How are you going to spend your winnings, you two? Get a salmon so she knows what one is. Exactly. There we go. Thank you all. You've been listening to Idiot Wind. Thank you for joining us. You've been listening to Patrick and Prana. To Enrico and Scott, to Matthew, I've been Chris Reid. I don't know why I've stopped saying anybody's surnames.
It's going to make you difficult to Google them if you want to find out more about them. But I'm Chris Reid and I'm the only one that matters to me. So thank you for listening to Idiot Wind. Thank you to Nicholas Sparrow. See you next time when we play this silly quiz. Yay!
